FOR a camera pitched as an entry-level DSLR, the Nikon D5200 is an attractive package.
It's a solid camera that sits comfortably in your hands, but it's the features inside that will appeal the most.
This is a 24.1-megapixel camera with an ISO range of 100 to 6400 and expandable to 25,600. It shoots full high-definition video and has a 39-point autofocus system.
The 3-inch LCD screen can be rotated in all sorts of angles to make it easier to see the screen when you're holding the camera at an unusual angle or trying to take a self-portrait.
If you attach a wireless mobile adaptor and download the free app, you can control your camera with a smartphone and upload images to social media as you shoot them.
There are 16 scene modes to help beginners and seven effect modes for those who like to process shots in camera.
It weighs 555g without lens, and has an Expeed 3 image processor that you'll find in Nikon's more advanced DSLRs.
But the in-built High Dynamic Range setting takes just two shots. If you want to create your own HDR, the auto bracketing will shoot just three.
The D5200 will shoot an impressive five frames per second, but it does not have an internal autofocus motor, which means you're reliant on the autofocus in the lens.
This is still a long way behind the top-of-the-range model, but its image quality, ease of use and extra features, such as wi-fi connectivity, make it an appealing camera for those starting their DSLR journey.
