HUNDREDS of people have packed into Martin Pl this morning to watch Ed Sheeran perform live.

Chants of "We Want Ed" rang out from the crowd moments before the 22-year-old emerged to screaming fans.
Dressed in a black tee and baggy jeans, Ed made the girls cry with special rendition of his song Give Me Love.

Sheeran then told the crowd he would be performing another two of his well known numbers and a brand new one.

Some camped in the city all night to get up close and personal with their music idol.

Sixteen-year-old Lizzie Jack and her mum drove for five hours from Batemans Bay, on the state's south coast, overnight to see Sheeran in the flesh.

"I'm a singer songwriter as well and Ed is my inspiration. He's the greatest thing to happen to the music industry," she said.

"We got here at 3am last night after listening to Ed in the car on repeat."
Famous for his red bangs, the UK heartthrob attained a cult-like following after his first single The A-Team sold millions of copies worldwide.

He then went on to release Lego House and Drunk.

The mini concert, hosted by Nova 969 and Channel 7, is ahead of his Friday gig at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
