Ridiculous Fishing, as the name suggests, isn't like the real thing but it is strangely addictive. Source: Supplied

NEW game Bioshock Infinite is a cut above the rest according to Switched On's gaming expert Tristan Ogilvie.

* Pick of the week:

BIOSHOCK INFINITE [MA15+]

PC, PS3, 360, $99.95

Rating: 5/5

The player is Booker DeWitt, a detective tasked with rescuing a child. However, all isn't what it seems in this spiritual successor to the original, BioShock. While the satisfying mix of shooting and superpowers keeps you hooked, it's the unravelling of the mystery surrounding the main characters that makes Infinite so compelling, culminating in a truly mind-bending climax. Complex narrative themes of race, religion and quantum mechanics combine to elevate this game above its peers. Exceptional.

GEARS OF WAR: JUDGMENT [MA15+]

360, $79.95

Rating: 4/5

A prequel set some 15 years prior to the original Gears of War, Judgment centres around soldier Damon Baird and the other members of Kilo Squad. The core gameplay remains largely unchanged - it's still mainly about sticking to cover and chainsawing aliens - but the action plays out at a faster pace, and the campaign is spiced up by a new challenge system.

DARKSTALKERS RESURRECTION [M]

PSN/XBLA, $20

Rating: 4/5

The original Darkstalkers hit arcades in the wake of the Street Fighter II phenomenon, and although it was an excellent game, it never reached the heights of Capcom's other classic. Resurrection comprises the two best games in the series, Darkstalkers' Revenge and Darkstalkers 3, and with its lag-free online modes, it's a must for 2D fighting fans.

SNIPER GHOST WARRIOR 2 [MA15+]

PC, PS3, 360, $79.95 ($69.95 PC)

Rating: 3/5

This first-person shooter is all about dealing death from a distance. It's the realistic conditions of its harder difficulty settings that set it apart from your typical Call of Duty clone. Having to account for your heart rate and wind direction while lining up your shots makes a direct hit all the more satisfying.

RIDICULOUS FISHING

iOS, $2.99

Rating: 3/5

By no means a serious simulation of the sport, Ridiculous Fishing is an addictive arcade fishing game that lets you lure a number of fish on the one line, before launching them into the air and blasting them to bits with an arsenal of high-powered guns. Yes, it's totally ridiculous, but it's also strangely compelling as you unlock better lines that allow you to reach new depths and hook more valuable fish.
