TELSTRA claims their loyalty ticket pre-sale fail today for the Bon Jovi tour in December was due to ''unprecedented demand'' from fans who hadn't registered for the buy-in.

Frustrated fans vented online for more than three hours as Telstra's ticketing partner BangTango struggled to get the site back online after it crashed at 9am.

While customers eligible for the pre-sale for the American rock band's Because We Can stadium shows here later this year had to register to receive a code word, a Telstra spokesman said seven times more people tried to access the site.

Fans levelled several complaints via social media at the telco who was offering the first chance to buy tickets as part of its ''Thanks'' loyalty program to customers.

Many said they couldn't log in, others vented that their code word didn't work or the BangTango site wouldn't load.

Telstra assured fans that tickets would be available once the site stabilised but someone forgot to tell the staff sending out updates via Twitter.

They failed to give ticket buyers the heads up for more than 20 minutes aftter BangTango was up and running again.

A spokesman insisted tickets were still available across all packages from $35 to VIP access but ''are selling quickly''.

The general public sale goes live on Monday.

Earlier, promoter Paul Dainty took to his company Facebook page to warn fans the ticketing service BangTango was struggling to cope with the demand for the first tickets released for the December shows.

While he assured the frustrated buyers who were unable to log in that the pre-sale would last for 48 hours, many fans vented their disappointment on the Bon Jovi page.

Some suggested tickets had already found their way onto eBay.

"And Bon Jovi you should tell your marketing mob to do more research next time and not partner with the likes of Telstra in future," wrote one angry fan.
