Aerosmith cancel show for festival

AEROSMITH have cancelled their Sydney concert to join Van Halen on the opening day of the inaugural Stone Music festival.

Instead of playing their own outdoor show at the ANZ Stadium on April 28, former cocaine addict Steve Tyler and his band will now warm the stage at the same venue on April 21.

It is believed ticket sales for both events have been slow and promoters are hoping the combined fanbase for the veteran rock groups Aersosmith and Van Halen will swell Stone Music Festival crowd numbers.

Promoters for the festival which was inspired by the cult Australian biker film Stone have also cut ticket prices to provide extra incentive to music fans.

Industry insiders were amused to note Aerosmith’s promoter Andrew McManus had sledged the festival on Facebook when it was announced and was now joining forces with the event.

A MAKESHIFT "naughty corner" was set up yesterday after teenagers were allegedly caught in possession of drugs at an underage music festival.

The care unit, set up by police monitoring the Good Life event at Randwick Racecourse, was a hive of activity as officers dealt with dozens of teens caught allegedly breaking the law.

One girl was led away in handcuffs and placed in a paddy wagon while others were held until their parents arrived to collect them. Random breath tests and pat-down searches were also carried out by private security staff inside the venue.

A Good Life spokeswoman said the event had "gone smoothly", despite a few misbehaving teens: "The majority of people were fantastic ... it's been a great day."

IT may be all about the Harlem Shake at the moment, but Gangnam Style had a return to form at Future Music festival in Sydney yesterday.

Tens of thousands of punters packed into Randwick Racecourse yesterday to see the Psy star perform the iconic dance in the flesh.

Despite the K-Pop star still only having one well-known song, his performance was dubbed the gig of the day by many.

Rita Ora, The Temper Trap, Stone Roses, The Prodigy, Dizzee Rascal, Bloc Party, Fun, Rudimental and Azealia Banks were also among the star-studded line-up who performed to over 50,000 fans.

Wedged in between the two main stages, the festival First Class played host to a slew of celebrities and music industry types.

It was the place to be seen, with uninterrupted views of all the big acts and offered the best spot of the festival for people-watching.

Lil Jon, Samara Weaving, Rhiannon Fish, Reece Mastin, Ryan "Fitzy" Fitzgerald, Tom Williams, Tyler Atkins, Nathan Jolliffe, Hugh Sheridan and Isabelle Cornish were among some of the big names to call the First Class lounge home for the day.

Elsewhere at the festival, side stages such as the Strongbow summer foam party offered festival-goers new and interesting places to mosh.

From early on in the day music-lovers were getting messy in a foam pit that ended up resembling a giant bubble bath by the end.

The Jack Daniels barrel house also played host to acts such as Rudimental, Van She and Bloc Party front-man Kele Okereke who took to the decks.

Punters who decided to forgo the main stages were delighted with an alternative, more intimate music experience.

The festival hits Melbourne today and Adelaide on Monday after touring Brisbane and Perth last weekend.

Boss gives UK festival another chance

Bruce Springsteen

BRUCE Springsteen is returning to the London festival that pulled the plug on his duet with Paul McCartney.

Springsteen will again headline the London Hard Rock Calling festival, a year after authorities shut off the power while the pair performed after they violated a curfew.

The American rock star brings The E Street Band back to the event that is moving to a new location at the city's Olympic Park.

Concert organisers Live Nation are leaving Hyde Park amid friction between fans and the neighbourhood's well-heeled residents, many of whom gripe about the late-night noise.

Springsteen had already exceeded the 10.30pm curfew by half an hour when he welcomed McCartney on stage last July. They sang the Beatles hits I Saw Her Standing There and Twist and Shout. But officials turned the microphones off, and they were forced to leave the stage in silence.

Springsteen will headline the second night of the two-day festival on June 30. Other acts include Kasabian, Paul Weller, the Black Crowes and Alabama Shakes.

Live Nation Entertainment is holding a series of concerts at the former Olympic venue this summer - including the Hard Rock Calling and Wireless festivals - after gaining exclusive rights to the venue.

The 227-hectare site of the 2012 Summer Games is due to reopen to the public in stages between July and early 2014.

A YOUNG heavy metal fan suffered severe burns after she was struck by a flare during last night's Soundwave concert at Sydney Olympic Park.

Organisers are investigating two incidents in which magnesium flares were lit during the Metallica and Bring me the Horizon sets in the moshpit, injuring the girl and those around her.

Sustaining burns to her forearm, the girl was rushed to hospital where she went underwent emergency treatment.

At this early stage of the police investigation, it is thought the flare may have burnt some plastic which then fell on the woman and caused the burns.

Music fans reacted angrily on social media sites about the stupidity and dangers of lighting a flare in the crowd.

"I was hit by that flare & standing next to that girl who was really hurt. My shoulders all hurt..." Kiwi Conway wrote on Facebook.

An irate AJ Maddah, Soundwave promoter, went to Twitter to voice his rage towards the offender.

"Massive awful burn on her forearm. I am devastated for her," AJ Maddah said on his Twitter feed called iamnotshouting.

"If you see anyone with a lit flare please take their photo and tweet to me so I can hand to police."

Last year, a 23-year-old man was critically injured in an accident during the Soundwave music festival at Brisbane's RNA Showgrounds.

The young man underwent life-saving surgery after he suffered massive head injuries caused by a 5m fall from the top of a staircase at the exhibition hall.
