CHAIRMAN of the NBN, Harrison Young is reportedly planning to step down.

Board member and Ten Network Holdings director, Siobhan McKenna is being tipped to replace him, the Australian Financial Review is reporting.

An NBN spokesperson refused to confirm the new appointment and said it was "a matter for the government".

Mr Young told the AFR that his contract was coming to an end and that he was not seeking reappointment.

"I think it was the end of my term, I'd leave it at that," he told the AFR.

"I was appointed for three years, I served for three years, it was wonderful, I enjoyed it – it was an honour and that seemed like that was enough time.

"I'm still on the board of Commonwealth Bank and I've got plenty of stuff to do."

NBN Co referred news.com.au to Senator Conroy and "shareholding ministers" when it was approached for comment.

Senator Conroy has not returned News.com.au's requests for comment.
