CALLING all angry drivers, this might be the car for you. Kia of Korea has unveiled a car with headlights that can be adjusted to reflect your mood.
Among the options on the Kia Provo unveiled at the Geneva motor show overnight are “snake-eyes”, “burning anger” and the “red cross” symbol in case of a hospital emergency.
The shapes come from 850 tiny LEDs at the front of the car and can be programmed to suit the driver’s dreams, expression or mood.
For now, though, it is only motor show tease and it is unclear if the road rules would allow such technology.
But the designer who oversaw the project said it demonstrates what is possible, and “could be used for good manners, not road rage”.
“Light technology is moving forward very fast,” said the head of Hyundai and Kia design, Peter Schreyer. “This is just an idea of what you can do. Hopefully people would use it to be nice, not mean. Wouldn’t it be nice if everybody was more friendly on the roads?”
He said the menacing examples shown on the concept car were designed to attract attention and he expected most customers would find fun options, if it were ever to see the light of day.
Despite coming up with unlimited options, Schreyer said he would have “normal round headlights”.
“Everyone has different shapes [of headlight design] these days, wouldn’t it be nice to just have round headlights,” he said.
