NASA has summoned hundreds of computer game developers to help it recruit the next generation of explorers.

NASA's Ames Research Centre in California will on March 8 host a weekend of debate and discussions about mixing games with science.

During the event, called Dark Side of the Jam, Developers will be asked to create games that "will help capture the public's interest in the real science and technology advancements being made in aerospace exploration," a NASA statement read.

This is not NASA's first foray into the gaming universe.

It has previously released Moonbase Alpha, a lunar exploration game, and Mars Rover Landing which emulated the Mars rover Curiosity's arrival at the red planet.
